What Are You Still Carrying? | A Gentle Reflection on Letting Go

What Are You Still Carrying? | A Gentle Reflection on Letting Go

There’s a quiet moment that comes sometimes—when the noise settles, when the house is still, when the sun slips in and catches the curve of your arm or the corner of the room—and it asks you:
What are you still carrying?

Sophie resting her chin on her hand in a quiet, thoughtful moment in her sunlit studio corner.

Not in your hands.
Not even on your shoulders.
But quietly, invisibly—under your skin, in your breath, behind your eyes.

I didn’t know how much I was carrying until my body started telling me.
Until the tension wouldn’t leave my jaw.
Until I flinched at kindness.
Until silence started to feel like safety, not loneliness.

A glimpse of Sophie’s floral and deer tattoos as she gently touches her hair, light streaming in behind her.

We all have things we pick up without noticing:
– Stories we were told about our worth
– Fears handed down like heirlooms
– Roles we slipped into because they were expected, not chosen
– Grief we were too busy to name
– Dreams we shelved to survive

But the question that keeps circling in me lately isn’t “What happened to you?”
It’s “Do you still want to carry that?”

Not everything we hold belongs in our future.

I’m still healing. Still learning to set some things down.
But in the space they leave behind, I’m discovering something gentler:
– I can choose what to keep.
– I can soften without breaking.
– I can grow without rushing.

And maybe you can, too.

So today, this is your invitation:
Notice what you’re holding.
Ask if it still serves you.
And if not—maybe, just maybe—let it rest.
Even for a moment.
