How Creativity Became My Anchor in Uncertain Times
How Creativity Became My Anchor in Uncertain Times

There was a time in my life when everything I thought was stable began to shift. The end of a long-term relationship. Becoming a single mother. Life as I knew it unraveled in ways I hadn’t expected — even though I was already living in a quiet cabin in the Yukon, surrounded by nature. It was a life I had chosen, but suddenly, I found myself navigating it in a whole new way: alone, uncertain, and emotionally raw.
In the midst of all that change, something quietly began to bloom.
That something was creativity.

Jewelry as Meditation
I often describe jewelry making as a kind of moving meditation. The rhythm of wrapping wire, the feel of stone and metal, the intuitive choices in design — they pulled me out of my thoughts and grounded me in the moment.
It wasn’t just about the final product. It was the quiet process, the focus, the care. Creating jewelry gave me something to hold onto when I felt like everything else was shifting beneath me. It reminded me that I could still make beauty, even when life felt fragile.
The Power of Personal Symbols
Many of the pieces I create are inspired by personal symbols: the moon for cycles and growth, the fox for adaptability, the turquoise stone for protection and strength. These aren’t just aesthetic choices — they’re reflections of what I need in my own life.
And I think that’s part of why handmade jewelry resonates with people. We’re all carrying stories, transitions, hopes. A piece of jewelry can become more than decoration — it becomes a quiet reminder of our journey, our healing, our strength.
“We are always changing — just like the moon.”
This bracelet is a reminder to honor your own cycles.
Creativity Is for All of Us
I didn’t study art. I wasn’t trained in jewelry making. I’m self-taught, guided by curiosity, emotion, and trial and error. And I think that’s important to share — because creativity isn’t something you have to earn. It’s not reserved for professionals. It’s for all of us, especially during hard times.
Even if you’re just doodling in the margins of your day, or rearranging stones on your windowsill — you’re creating. You’re tuning into something sacred. That deserves to be celebrated.
Sometimes creativity begins in stillness — with coffee, light, and a deep breath.
Final Thoughts
If you're in a season of change, or if life feels uncertain — I invite you to reconnect with your creative self. Try something with your hands. Follow your curiosity. Let it be imperfect. Let it be yours.
It might not fix everything — but it just might help you breathe a little easier.
