A Weekend in Teslin: Space to Breathe, Play, and Just Be
A Weekend in Teslin: Space to Breathe, Play, and Just Be
This past weekend, we spent time in Teslin.
Just a short drive from home — but it felt like stepping into another rhythm.
Slower. Softer. Spacious in a way I didn’t realize I needed.

We stayed with family, surrounded by good people and quiet kindness.
The kind of people who don’t ask you to be anything but yourself.
There was coffee in the mornings, bare feet in the grass, laughter in the kitchen, and rooms filled with children.

Kato played endlessly — curious, joyful, alive in that wide-open way only kids know how to be.
He deepened old connections, jumped on the trampoline for hours, went fishing with big eyes and small hands, and moved through rooms filled with laughter.
He listened, asked questions, and laughed loud — fully part of everything around him.

Icki was in heaven.
Tail wagging, nose to the earth, soaking up the freedom like the rest of us.
And me?
I felt the spaciousness settle into my body.
There was no pressure to perform. No small talk I had to fake. No rushing.
Just slow mornings. Simple food. Real conversation.
And space — not just around me, but inside me, too.
It’s something I’ve come to crave more and more:
Spaces where I don’t have to hold everything together.
Where my nervous system can unclench.
Where there’s time for eye contact and exhaling and watching the trees sway.
Teslin gave us that.
A kind of breathing room for everyone.
For the grownups. For the kids. For me and for Kato.
And I carry that home now — a reminder that this is what I want more of.
Not just in weekends away, but in the way I live.
Less noise.
More presence.
Less pressure.
More play.
More freedom to just be.
With love,
Sophie
